Joining the ranks of motherhoood :)

Our birth announcement that was posted on FB a few days after getting home from the hospital: Katherine (Katie) Patricia Gledhill was born August 3rd at 7pm after 19 hours of labor. 7 pounds 4 ounces. Gorgeous, beautiful and sweet! What an amazing miracle this is! We feel so blessed! I am recovering and daddy is being a rockstar and quickly earning his title as "Baby Whisperer".

So I'm now a mom. And what an incredible feeling it is! I was explaining to a friend just the other day that the words "unconditional love" don't even come close to describing the feelings I have for my darling baby girl. Despite having a less than ideal delivery (I may save that gorry post for another day and just summarize it with the words "third degree tearing" and "4+ weeks recovery" and "getting intimate with both my mom and mom-in-law through daily suppositories") I can honestly say I would do it all over again since the end result is beyond worth it!

Apart from my long and difficult recovery (and the typical sleep deprivation), the only real challenge we had had so far is getting Katie to gain weight. But we continue to tackle it and after resisting formula for the first 6 weeks, we have finally caved and got on that path. After supplementing with bottles for a couple of weeks, and a visit to breastfeeding guru Dr. Jack Newman last week, we are back to feeding at the breast as often as possible and using a lactation aid made of tubing as the supplementation device. Oh, and I forgot to mention we got her tongue and upper lip clipped in an effort to make her latch improve and hopefully her feeding vigour too! Not sure who that experience was more traumatic for... Needless to say, there were tears on both of our parts!

So I don't know if I'll end up writing as much each day, but since I love to take pictures and usually send them to both sets of grandparents each day, I thought I'd post them here too as a sort of storage device. It may turn into a book later on... so we'll see.

Alas... here come some of my favs from the past little while...

Italy Bound

Back in April I accepted a summer teaching job with an organization called Blyth International Summers. I was hooked up with this opportunity through a friend of mine (also a teacher) that I know from my summers at Sauble Beach.

So... as of tonight, I'm off for Italy where I will be teaching 3 different math courses (Grade 11U, Grade 11M, and Grade 12 Advanced Functions) in 3.5 weeks to a group of 6 students while we travel to Sienna, Sardinia, and Rome.



We'll see how it all unfolds!

Final Exams

We are in the home stretch right now. In the middle of exam week right now.

Am currently sitting at the kitchen table, marking, with a glass of wine in hand. Just finished marking my Grade 11 College exam and came across a couple of hand written notes that the students had left for me on their paper. Thought they were so cute that I had to document them for future reference the next time I start to feel like my students don't appreciate me! (lol)...

1. Sorry I couldn't pull through for you this year Ms. Edwards. Maybe next year... when I'm in the same class. Great being taught by your this year though! :)
