Total driven: 240km
Up at 6am. Spent majority of our time snuggling sammy and saying goodbye. Grabbed some coffee and muffins from the cottage and set off after saying goodbye to mom, dad and Laura. Halfway to tobermory ryan reminded us that it was his bday. We . Arrived at tobermory terminal an hour ahead of time. Watched Mr beast “survived 100 days in a bunker” while waiting. Pretty exciting experience driving onto the ferry and up the ramp. Spent lots of time exploring the ship, the gift shop, and the cafeteria. Found a nice spot to sit and read. Played “I'm going on a picnic”.
Headed back to our car for an exciting departure off the ship and onto the island. Had a quick stop at a nearby beach to see if we could catch a glimpse of the ferry. No such luck, but a good chance to do some lunges and stretches.
Put “Kicking Mule Guest House” (our accommodations for the night) into the GPS and drove towards it. As we approached we saw a sign that read “5 cent flap Jack's all day”. Stopped briefly to check out the “kicking Mule ranch” which was located directly beside our accommodations, saw some beautiful animals and decided we would come back for a pony ride later. Enjoyed our $5 breakfast, and drove to wikwemikong to take in some of the pow wow that was taking place there. Saw some beautiful costumes and cultural ceremonies. Shared a fresh squeezed lemonade. It was hot hot hot out!
On our way back we stopped for some pictures at Two o'clock Lookout. A few mins later we took a short detour to follow signs to Coopers sunflower farm. Received a brief history lesson about the farm and the property. Then ventured out for a 1km trail walk through the sunflowers. Selfies!!! Picked up some fresh green beans and headed back for the pony ride at Kicking Mule Ranch. Along the way we couldn't help but notice all of the beautiful wildflowers on the side of the road.
Kids had a blast riding their horses. Katie rode Shadow and Ben rode Benny. So magical to see them love it. Smiles for miles. Kids got to feed the horses afterwards. We picked up some fries and poutine from the tiny restaurant on site, sat in the shade and enjoyed the atmosphere. Then traveled a half km down the road, back to Kicking Mule Guest House.
We took possession of our Tipi accommodations, unpacked, and crashed for an hour for reading and napping. The kids found entertainment following the free range chickens arojnd the property and making friends with Denny, the resident dog that looked like Lassie. We used the super cute outdoor kitchen to heat up the leftover sausages we had brought with us and finished up the fresh green beans. Drove to providence bay to catch the sunset, stopping at mindemoya food land for a few essential groceries. The sunset was a bust thanks to the clouds, but we had a birthday celebration on the beach for Ryan complete with powdered donuts and a sparkler candle. The kids joined Ryan for a cold swim and then we drove back to our accommodations.
We caught some of the community campfire and guitar sing along and then headed to bed.
Day 1 was an overwhelming success. We can not believe how many memories were made in less than 24 hours!
